The Ring Symbology Of Each Finger

There is more to wearing rings than simply adding a piece of beautiful jewelry to your hand. Rings have meaning. They represent a lot more than we imagine, especially when worn on specific fingers. Historically and culturally, wearing a ring on a specific finger bore deep meaning. Learning the symbolism of each finger may change the way you look at wearing rings now and in the future.

A Ring For Every Finger

When purchasing rings for women, it is a good idea to determine what message you want to convey when you wear the ring. Each finger on your hands has a special meaning. The following are the most common associations made about wearing rings on each of the five fingers:

Pinkies

In palmistry, the pinky represents Mercury. It stands for persuasion, intuition, intelligence and communication. It is no wonder rings worn on this finger are often taken to be a symbol of artistry and creativity. They are also taken as a sign of extraordinary character.

The right hand is the dominant hand for 90 percent of the population. Graduates often wear their graduate rings on their right pinky finger as a symbol of their achievement.

Wearing a ring on your pinky is a symbol of strength. It shows your attitude toward yourself and your attractiveness. It is a symbol of great confidence in your own ability.

Ring Fingers

This finger in palmistry represents Apollo. It is a symbol of creativity, love, relationships, and beauty. Wearing a ring on either the right or left ring finger is interpreted as a symbol of a strong bond or relationship. Rings worn on these fingers often represent a promise or covenant.

In many cultures, married or engaged couples wear rings on their left ring fingers. However, some cultures, such as those in Russia, wear their engagement or wedding rings on their right hand ring fingers.

Some young people wear rings on their ring fingers as a symbol of their commitment to purity. Religious people also wear rings on these fingers as symbols of their commitment to their religious vows.

Some people wear rings on their ring fingers as a sign of self-love, self-worth, or creativity.

Middle Fingers

The middle finger represents Saturn. It is the symbol for responsibility, justice, balance, soul-searching, and law. Wearing a ring on this finger does not have a specific meaning. However, it is thought to symbolize power and responsibility. Rings worn on this finger are also thought to be worn in trying to make a statement about your life. Many people who wear rings on their middle finger are thought to enjoy the spotlight.

Index Fingers

The index finger represents Jupiter. It is the symbol for leadership, self-confidence, spirituality, and ambition. In the Jewish culture, the right index finger is the proper finger for placing the wedding ring. However, in many other cultures, the finger does not hold any significant meaning.

Wearing a ring on the index finger, however can be interpreted as symbolizing your need for establishing power and authority. It is a symbol of your ego. It is often associated with the desire for leadership positions and ambition. Many people in authority including priests, kings, bishops, and healers wear a ring on this finger to demonstrate power, authority, or assertiveness.

Thumbs

The thumb is not associated with any Greek God in palmistry. It is taken to symbolize willpower and self-assertion for its positioning that is separate from the other fingers. Rings on thumbs can symbolize your desire for independence or a free-spirited nature. These rings can symbolize freedom.

Wearing a ring can be for more than simply making your hands more attractive. They can send significant messages to others. They can be symbols of love, authority, or commitment depending on the finger that you place the ring.
